On behalf of the United Republic of Tanzania, it is a profound honor to chair the AFROSAI Working Group on Environmental Audits (WGEA). I extend my warmest welcome to all our member Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) . Your expertise is the cornerstone of our group’s strengths. 

I also extend a special invitation to all SAIs in the AFROSAI region who have not yet joined us. This is a vital collaboration that offers unique opportunities for knowledge sharing, capacity building, and achieving greater collective impact on environmental accountability.

We stand at a critical juncture where environmental challenges, from climate change and biodiversity loss to water scarcity and pollution, transcend national borders. These are global issues demanding a united response, which underscores the essential role of the AFROSAI WGEA. We firmly believe the capacity of each member SAI is amplified exponentially when we share knowledge, best practices, and audit methodologies. You are the driving force behind our mission, and we are committed to providing a platform where your contributions are not just welcome but indispensable. 

Our success depends on our shared commitment. Therefore we must maximize collaboration, not only within the AFROSAI region but also by actively engaging with other regional working groups and our global counterpart, the INTOSAI WGEA. Integrating global perspectives with regional realities will ensure our audits have maximum relevance and  impact.

I urge your utmost participation in the upcoming programs, including the capacity-building initiatives and joint audits which are aligned with the broader AFROSAI Strategy. Let us leverage our collective expertise to strengthen environmental governance across Africa. 

Together, through transparent and effective public sector auditing, we can enhance the stewardship of our planet and secure a more sustainable world for current and future generations.
